Rest is physically necessary so that the muscles, mind and organs can repair, rebuild, and strengthen. For active individuals or those aspiring to be more active, building in rest days can help maintain a better balance between home, work, and body goals.

Restorative and recovery time is important because this is the time that the body adapts to the physical, mental and emotional stress. Recovery allows the body to replenish energy stores and repair damaged tissues.

This is also the time for soft tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments) repair and the removal of chemicals that build up as a result of cell activity during exercise, injury or stress.

We undergo physical or emotional stress, our body adapts and becomes more efficient in compensation. It’s just like learning any new skill; at first, it’s difficult, but over time it becomes second-nature and this becomes your new normal.
